Drawtober 2026 An A to Z of endangered species and their mythical guardians

Angharad the mermaid is the angel shark guardian keeping a look out on the surface while Angelshark plays in the shallow sandy seabed

This year rather than following any of the inktober/drawtober prompts I'm drawing an A to Z of endangered species and their mythical guardians - I'm imagining they have been appointed a magical creature to help safeguard them.

Day one is the angel shark, listed as critically endangered on the IUCN Red List, angel sharks are known to be present off the Welsh coast, where the multidisciplinary project Angel Shark Project: Wales has been working with fishers and coastal communities since 2018 to better understand and safeguard the species off the coast.

I'm drawing in this sketch book using coloured pencis and my Toms Studio Lumos pen which is a refilable fineliner (no more plastic waste!!)
